Ms Stratton and AIA –
Invoice collections is a unique and critical challenge to AIA architecture firms. An architecture firm pursues the challenges of finding work, negotiating fee, accomplishing creative tasks, and incurring risk. A non-paying contract is devastating to a firm: through lost capital, lost time spent in collections pursuits, and lost capacity for credit.
1. What legal resources does the AIA offer to support or advise architecture firms through contract collections?
2. What advocacy role is the AIA taking to increase the strength of litigation against non-paying contracts?
Following are services that would be helpful for architects with the above concerns:
1. Legal collection representation for member firms
2. Standardized AIA lien documents
3. Referrals for experienced legal counsel to member firms
4. Continuing education seminars focused on legal collections.
Thank you for your consideration of Collections Advocacy for AIA member firms. This request has also been sent to our regional and state AIA offices, and has been posted on our firm’s blog and website.
